I'll be changing back to the Telstra network when my current Virgin (uses Optus) contract expires as reception locally is almost non-existent.
The cheese and kisses will be getting my S4.
She's currently on vodaphone paying WAY too much for a ****ty old pre-smart phone Nokia.
Her requirements: will be primarily talk and text, but I daresay she'll use some data once she gets into the whole smartphone thing. I think 1Gb would be more than enough for her.
No need for international calls.
Around $30 p/m would be ideal.
I want to get her on a carrier that is either Telstra or a Telstra re-seller.
I note on Telstra they have prepaid: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-ph...fers-and-rates
(Freedom Plus $30 plan seems the best value)
they have post-paid BYO phone plans: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-ph...lans-and-rates
What advantage does locking in to one of these bring?
Also what other decent mobs are out there these days that use the Telstra network?

My BYO Telstra $30 plan gives unlimited calls to all standard Oz fixed and mobile numbers and unlimited text. I also have a $5 data allowance which only gives 288? MB which is IMHO expensive.
Why not buy one of those old/new Iphone 5 basics on Ebay or from Kogan for $320 or so and do the plan.
My wife has an old Iphone 3g and she demands that when it dies she gets another iphone, she loves it so much.
BTW , my wife is on a $20 Amaysim plan at 7cents a minute which rolls over unused talk time and it works well for us in major centres as is on the Optus network, but useless out of town.

Hi,
we run both mobiles on Telstra Mobile Pre-paid. $100 lasts about a year for me, 3 months for she.
One is a smart phone but only uses data at home on the Broadband WiFi, or on the Telstra Hot Spot when we are travelling. That is about 5Gb which is just enough for our needs when travelling and hardly gets used at home. Grrrrr!
I do wish we could buy annual, not monthly, plans.
Cheers
BYO post paid. I was on a $20 postr paid that I just kept for travelling and to add data packs to. Now Telstra automatically add data if you go over the limit at AFAIR $10 per gig.Which plan is that? Pre paid or post-paid?
Telstra now offer a $50 for 5 gigs pre paid data plan which lasts a year.I do wish we could buy annual, not monthly, plans.
I bought it last month, but could not carry over my unused data from the previous $150 year plan.
I was able to carry over the remaining $ but not the data after much argument.
However I think this offer is for a limited time.
Geez this sounds like a Telstra ad but it's not , just my recent experience.
Regards Philip A
They are 12 month contracts so that means you know what you pay for the next year even if the plans change and they put the prices up. For Telstra - they know they have you for 12 months.
The choice is to buy what best suits you. We are post-paid with Telstra as post-paid is more convenient than having to recharge - for us anyway.
When I want to use a mobile phone I want it to work so I am happy to pay a premium to use Telstra and know I will get better coverage than any other carrier.
Boost uses Telstra's network, but not sure what others do these days.
