    try skymesh

Planning on using skype as only telephone access. Skymesh (starting to expand across Australia) offer great rates and bundle broadband in with it. Can even take your current phone number to wherever you are going. If worried about the usage, they offer huge down/upload access for not much.

Also, 3c a minute to dial out to most places in the world sounds good to me!! No ongoing charges either. I don't know how they make money out of it.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Now my daughter has moved to Scotland.. she uses vodafone mobile. Is it possible to make VOIP calls to mobiles... and does she have to pay anything using her mobile to recieve VOIP or skype call? I'll ring vodafone charge for vodafone - vodafone mobile calls internationally? guess that's a question better asked to vodafone.

Internode is my broadband carrier .. they have VOIP ... anyone experienced with it??? I tried skype years ago but wasn't that impressed....

You can call a UK mobile from a VoIP operator, but it will be nowhere near as cheap as calling a UK fixed line. Even if you have her set you up a UK VoIP account and then use it from over here, it will still be in the region of 10-15p/min! Check out the Aus VoIP operators (Pennytell, BBPGlobal, plus the ISP offerings) to see which is cheapest.

It's free to receive standard voice calls on any UK mobile - the originating network (i.e. VoIP, Telstra, Skypeout or whatever) is irrelevant. Only in the US does the called party pay on mobile calls, which is why it's just as cheap for you or I to call into a US mobile as it is a US landline with the same area code.

Voda Aus - Voda UK internationally will likely be the same as Voda Aus - any UK mobile, as the two networks share only the same name - they are different operators in real terms. The best you get is when you roam onto the "same" network when travelling and potentially benefit from reduced roaming charges.

If she only has a mobile, find out if it's 3G and on a decent data plan, and then she could use Skype or any of the other VoIP operators over the mobile's data channel - either through a PC or directly if the handset is a smart phone which can take the Skype app or a SIP softphone.

    Hope this makes some sense.

I use Skype daily to chat to my fellow GCLRO members - mainly to give Stevo68 a few serves during the day - and also use it to talk to my family back home in ther UK with voice and web cam.....works great and means I can parade the ids in front of the camera each time so my folks can see how the littlies have grown

Well worth it IMO but I have only ever used it on a broadband connection.
