    Rave Cd

A while back I bought a Rave CD from here. I installed it OK and got it to work but the installation also stopped Windows starting until I hit "OK" on a check box that popped up. Uninstalling RAVE still left the check box on the system and it still had to be checked to allow Windows to start up.

After I had to do a clean instal of my system I have not reinstalled RAVE for this reason and just relied on my Haynes manual.

I would like to reinstal RAVE but not if stops windows opening up fully automatically. I have Windows XP Professional.

Is it possible to install the RAVE CD with having having Windows stalled on startup.

    Thanks

Don't install it just run it from the CD. Click on RAVE.EXE will put a link icon on your desktop that points to the CD. So to rerun it you put the CD into the drive and click the icon. Altertively copy the contents of the CD to a hard drive folder, click RAVE.exe in that folder and then you won't need the CD.

RAVE works with Acrobat Reader 4. If have a latter version installed and have opened any PDF's with it you will get an error saying another version is running. Stop this version in task manager and then rerun Rave.exe.

The acrobat version is to do with an adobe multi-user pluggin that isn't in the later versions. If someone knows the fix for this I'd be interested to learn of it.

Thanks to every one - you are right of course - I do not now have a problem.

When I bought the RAVe CD I also bought the electronic parts catalogue and installed the lot at once and assumed it was the RAVE that was causing the problem - it is clearly the parts catalogue that is causing Windows to not fully start until 'OK is clicked in the relevant window.

So does anyone who has the EPC installed have this problem.

    Thanks

The dealer's EPC uses a dongle on the computer's parallel port to authenticate. If the EPC you bought is like mine then there is a hack enclosed in a subdirectory that tells you what to do to get it to work without the dongle. Unlike the RAVE CD's the EPC is a copy protected software.

I always managed to get it too work but it doesn't allow windows to fully load without manual intervention.

    Thnks

Sounds like there is something in the application loading at startup. Check the "Startup" folder for the PC and see if there is anything loading in there that refers to the EPC's installation directory. Failing that there could also be a program loaded by the windows registry or a windows service that is started.

I have unloaded mine as it needed the PC clock reset to somewhere in Nov-2005 to run (another part of the dongle hack). If I get a chance I'll reinstall it and see what happens. My guess is that what ever the dongle hack is for the EPC you have is causing the problem.

    Are you running XP SP2?

Yep - have SP2 and the associated shut down of windows about 11 minutes after startup - the issues I have with EPC seem to be the dongle thingy - as I said before the EPC works it is just that I have to click 'OK' in a window that pops up in the windows startup process - just a pain more than anything else.

Thanks for all your help - when I started this thread I thought it was the RAVE that was causing the problem but now know it is the EPC. I have an old P1 laptop at home running win 98 so I might load EPC on that as I will not use EPC as often as the RAVE.

Now that I know Rave works OK - I have brought it too work and will print the X hundred pages off and have a hard copy as well - it will save using my resources

    Thanks

I just print out what I need when I need it, then it doesn't matter how dirty or torn the pages get.
