    Laptop modem problem

Hi all, the old laptop we have (the one i have sold, or in the process of selling) was struck by lightning a while ago and it took the modem out, the computer is functioning normally no probs and the new modem has been installed but now i cant get it to connect to the net. It is dialing and then stops, and keep cycling through the redail function. Sometimes it says there is no dial tone. I have checked all the settings and made sure they are the same as the PC (which is now fixed and working, well sort off, see the next thread i am about to start on that one), they are all the same, the dial location is set as Australia etc etc, the number and ISP details havent changed from the last modem so that is fine. Is this an out of date driver or something? Matt

try force dialing, this can be done a few ways, easiest is by turning off the wait for dial tone button somewhere in the coms settings,

slightly harder is doing it through hyperterminal (or equivilent program) and manually setting the s registers in the modem.

    Matt,

Check the regional settings in Windows.... If it does not think it is in Aus... it will be listening for the wrong type of dial tone..

As Blacknight mentioned try turning off wait for dial.

I sometimes also set upo a test dial to my mobile.. just to be sure it is dialing out when troubleshooting these things..

    Cheers,
