    lifespan?

Just wondering about the lifespan of an external HDD,, does it vary much from the usual HDD's?

    also,,, while your all here--

why does my USB HUB (12month old D-Link) show up as a SLOW usb connection?

depends on the brand and the vendors specs to the manufacturer, esp if it is branded.

most prepacks they order oem grade which is 1 year.

me, i wont sell prepacks, had way to much trouble with them.

me, i only sell external cases with a power switch on them and seagate drives as they have 5 year warranty and 1/3 the death rate of the western digital drives. i simply wont sell the other brands as they have crap mtbf's IME.

    your milage may vary....

It might help that they are external and so might not have to run as hot

Actually when I was looking for my external HDD one of the biggest rates of failure was overheating.

The case does have a fan in the back but the HDD still doesn't have the airflow that it does sitting inside my PC.

My desktop PC is vibrating. I have to pull the tower case covers off and disable the cooling fans (;eaving the HDD as the only rotational source) to be certain. If it is, I may be calling you - it's the Seagate I bought from you.

Regarding the USB Hub, the device may only be USB 1.1. Otherwise try plugging it into a different USB port that you know is USB 2.0 FULL SPEED (if you have them on your motherboard).

As far as I am aware if you have a USB Hub that runs at USB 2.0 FULL SPEED it should have an external power supply attached.
