    Pclinuxos 2007

Any linux users here tried pclinux os ? i have tried Ubuntu/ Kubuntu and a live dvd of Vixta but they are not quite as user friendly as i was hoping especially when it comes to wifi which is the main use with my spare pc using linux. On searching the forums i have seen a few mentions of pclinux being easier to use and better hardware intergration.

Haven't tried it, but it comes with the Linuxforum magazine currently on the news stands, complete with an assessment of it that seems fairly favourable.

Tried it last night, heaps more user friendly than Ubuntu/Kubuntu and the hardware setup is sooooo much easier, it even asks if you want to setup a wireless connection during setup. Has all the same repositories as other Linuz distro's and has the same eye candy such as 3D desktop etc.

I downloaded the iso and gave it a play for only an hour. I think it might be easier for Windoze users to make the migration over to linux. As they like everything to be point and click.
I personally don't like the default graphics though, too much like Windooze a little too bright, but that's only a small setting change. I think this distro might get a big following. And as Loanrangie mentioned, it's easy to set up.
But I believe it uses the rpm but with synaptic as a package manager.
    I'm more used to .deb.
I'm thinking of replacing Kubuntu with it and giving it a longer test.

I believe it will convert a few windows users as you said its more a point and click enviroment than Ubuntu/Kubuntu and seems more hardware friendly (to setup) than other linux distro's that i tried. Its easy to make it look less windoze or more vista like with beryl/ compiz.

I found that using the terminal to install the .rpms for some stuff like adobe acrobat etc was quite easy. I've been accustomed to .debs so rpms are a little different.
I in particular didn't like the fonts in firefox too much and searched and finally found a .rpm for msttcorefonts and installed that ( I can't remember where I found it but searched google for some time) this improved the firefox web fonts)
I had done this in Kubuntu before but that was with ' pretty widgets'
But I do have an issue with my ethernet, after the wizard set it up on install all was ok. then after reboot I do not have a connection and have to reinstall it just to go online.
I joined the pclinuxos forum, but they have to approve my membership 1st LOL. anyway I am approved and awaiting response.
PS I did see a familiar name on the forums as well. Anyone we know????
    Cheers,
    Rovernaut
