I'm running the same here. My setup doesn't ask that question but there should be a selection when you open the file to say "always carry out this action".
Running windows Vista and Office 2007.
How do I switch off the request to open a file when I double click on it? From an e-mail attachment, it always asks if I want to open or save the file and does not give me the option to simply check a box saying open without asking.

Vista comes with teh crappy microsnot office pack that you can use each application 20 times or so and then locks itout. (mine did anyway) Turf it all and go grab open office, takes less than 1/3 the disc space a poomtenth of the operational resources and does a butt load more...
