    uTorrent

Someone recommended to me that I try using torrents (?) to download and watch shows that I may like.

He recommended uTorrent as the client.

But how does this torrent thing work? Do you need to download the .torrent file for each download?

And can anyone recommend some good general sites to search for shows?

    Cheers.

    Hey Mate;

All you wanted to know about Utorrent is in here

Torrent - The Lightweight and Efficient BitTorrent Client

you can set up your PC as a PDR ( personal Digital recorder ) to download your favourite shows , Top Gear etc. follow the RSS Feed Guide

Port Forwarding in your Router helps the download speed as well I have noticed , if you need more info on that I'll post it up.

    cheers

    Khos

    Thanks Mate.

I assume that the same copyright issues apply with shows as they do with mp3's?

ie all these here Torrent Reactor - The most active torrents on the web are ripped?

And with the RSS, you'd schedule your download for off peak times I suppose?

There are some Neat Feature in U-torrent on Traffic shaping / port forwarding and also on the Scheduling download times , I've set up my downloads to start at 01:00 am and finish at 07:00 am because I have 110GB to use in a month.

I use uTorrent, I think it's the greatest. And to find stuff I use Mininova : The ultimate BitTorrent source!. It's a torrent search engine that keeps the adverts down to a minimum (some others have all sorts of soft pr0n crap showing up - hard to explain to the missus when she walks into the study).

The absolute best is Demonoid.com - but they only open membership for a couple of hours every few weeks, so you have to be lucky to get in. However - I do have an invitation code so if you're online now PM me & I'll send it to you.

One thing I really, really recommend you do - find & install peer guardian 2 BEFORE you start a torrent. PG2 is free, just google it to find.

What PG2 does is maintain a list of sites known to harvest IP addresses of people participating in (illegal) fire sharing. It then blocks you from sending and receiving data to/ from them. In effect you become invisible to the police guys. Now PG2 is not perfect but it's a whole lot better than nothing.

Yes - downloading torrents of shows is technically breaching copyright however, I have gotten soooo sick of our TV stations starting to run shows (eg. Battlestar Galactica) then discovering that Australia just doesn't have the audience for them and either pulling them mid-series or relegating them to 11pm timeslots .

If I REALLY want to watch a show I ignore the scheduled programming (if there is any) and download the lot so I can be assured of seeing the WHOLE series.

By the way, BSG series 4 is messing with my head and probably some of the most out-there drama (sci-fi or otherwise) ever screened.

    No.....really?

Don't know about BSG but I'm a fan of the Doctor and I count amongst my favorites 2001 ASO and a recent one, Serenity.

Gday, ok go to TORRENTS | TO | Your BitTorrent Search and search for what you want, when choosing the torrent allway pick one that has a few seeds (these are the ones you can download from), when you click on the torrent to download and the browser comes up with OPEN/SAVE choice, i select open it then opens uTorrent and then click ok, youre download should start
