    iPod touch or DS

    does anybody have both?

does anybody has an iPod Touch?

santa is being good this year, my youngest 6yo is gett a DS however i am undecided for my 9yo.....iPod touch or DS

i'm leaning towards iPod touch as he is a little older and it might be a better option allround as it gives the kids differant devices to play with

    thoughts?

A guy I work with had exactly this dilemma. He bought a touch because the games were cheaper, and it just does so much more.

If you want to look at games, open up itunes and go to the itunes store. You should be able to see the available apps in there

Most games for the ipod/iphone are less than $5 or free. $2 is very common. I believe they are far more for the DS.

    Hi mate,

I haven't had much contact with the DS, but I'd go with the Touch for the 9 yo... They are extremely versatile...

lol, a family friend's 5 year old knows how to use his mum's iPhone, and took a video of his younger (3 year old) brother eating food their mum had said they couldn't - the 5 year old went straight to the mother and showed her the video...

As has been said, also, iTunes makes the iPod Touch a great product...

For a small boy I would think the 8gb one would be more than adequate. There would be lots of room for games and a fair selection of music. If not just be a little selective with the music you sync to it.

Practicality and usefulness aside, I would go the DS for both as the iPod is not as robust and will break far easier from far less mistreatment. It doesnt take much to crack an iPod screen.

I was given a DS a couple years back, and have had an iphone for a couple months now.

I would go the Touch personally as so much more you seem to be able to do with them, plus a few of the games i had on the DS i have found on the touch anyway and seem to be better not to mention cheaper. An absolute heap of freebie games and so much cooler being able to turn the device for a lot of them rather than just a keypad.

Just ensure you buy a decent case for it... maybe a good thick rubber one that will bounce and a plastic screen protector.

I think that is fair comment. You should be aware that the ipod screen can be shattered with a good dropping.

Unfortunately it is that screen that gives it an interface beyond all others...

And with the DS, many games can be "shared" via the wifi link. The Pictochat function seems to keep them entertained too. (draw pictures & type messages, then send them wirelessly to the other DS).

Or, there's the DSI, which has a camera added, and a few other features. (not to mention an extra 100 bucks, but without the ability to use GBA carts too)

In the end, it all depends on what the 9yo is into.

DS is dead and gone, go the DSi. Both my boys traded their DS' in on the DSi when they came out. They take pics, get on the net (if you have a wifi modem at home) and lots more.

They will play DS games and if you're game, get an R4 card (cannot say more about this, do some research)
