Seems ok and like you guys said its cheep and nasty just the way i like it

Any way just a question with the screen. i want to mount the laptop in my disco on the roof upside down so the screen will fold down like a visor.

Just wondering if you can rotate the picture in the settings?
And do they still function upside down or dode this limit it's limited life further

    Cheers

Just be careful that you allow plenty of airflow around the base so that it doesn't overheat. And now for the question. Why on earth do you want it up there in the first place?

I guess it would be out of the way and out of the sun if i put it on the dash.

Just got back from hols and saw this...sister-in-law has had one for 18m or so...she uses the Skype video con facility for about an hour EVERY day to keep up with her extended family o/seas ..the camera is very good...
A nephew's girl friend bought one a year ago (think it cost her almost $1000 ) and has thrashed it for hours a day ever since...she's doing a law degree... so all her notes/research/assignments/facebook/skype/coffee shop wireless etc...all goes on the "Aspire"..

I missed one at the Christmas sale price ($398) so got the HP "mini" clone which I use solely for GPS/RAVE/Blackbox solutions etc.
Hard mounting standard notebooks/netbooks in a vehicle will ultimately kill them off because the mother board and hard drive gets shaken to bits through vibration...
I suspect a way around it is to mount the netbook on foam or whatever and have a separate touch screen and keyboard ...
Am still working on that one!

I've had one of these for a few months. Can't fault it myself, especially for the price - mine was about $350. Only problem is you say you want to watch movies - it doesn't come with a DVD drive. You can plug in an external DVD but that's more expense. If I were you I would buy a smallish - say 8-16GB flash drive. That size are dirt cheap now. Copy your movie to the drive then off you go.

I am now using one to replace my the dinosaur. I paid 500 but it has a built in 3G reciver so i have wireless broadband wherever I am. The only problem i had was i got a root kit after about 3 weeks. A bit dissapionting because my old computer had no firewall or anti virus and I never had a drama.

Im very impressed with the battery life. the standard 3 cell battery is good for 4-5 hours if you arent doing too much with it.

I'm using one with my vehicle programmer...

It replaced a $3000.00 ruggedised tablet that failed.

Has worked without fault since new, now 18 months old...

And of course they're slow, they're a 'web book' more than a laptop.

I cant fault mine at all.

The Aspire Ones are great little machines. Cheap as chips... somehow I've ended up with 3 of them

    • 1 with a solid state hard drive and a flavour of Linux for "ethical network penetration testing"
    • 1 running XP with OziExplorer, EASdiag, and Faultmate tools for the Rangie
    • 1 running XP/Win7 with widescreen, 1" thick and 8 hour battery life for plane trips

Sure, I've voided the warranty on a couple of them by doing "stuff" but at a few hundred dollars each they are an instant tax deduction

Practice safe software and backup useful data to a thumb drive regularly and you will have no regrets.

    Cheers, Paul.
