Okay I took out a sparkplug and it's black as soot in the end...although the ends don't seem worn and the electrode doesn't look cracked or anything. I'm thinking about replacing them anyway so I know what's in there as well as with the plugs.
What does it mean that they're all really REALLY black at the end? The end where the lead goes on to is also a bit grotty, it just looks like it's got some kind of build up on it that doesn't scratch off easily. These are probably a bit old. They are NGK BPR6S I think from memory.
I think I might have tried the timing light with the wrong plug (drivers side front)...I'm thinking it may have needed to be connected to the passenger side front now after reading up on it a bit. I didn't realize I didn't know the firing order until I was going to plug in the light so I thought I'd just try one and see how it went ;)
I also went to Supercheap Auto to see the plugs and leads they had and I got confused. You recommended Bosch WR7DC+ which I found, but there were a couple of different sizings of these (S1-4 and S5-8) ??? Then I looked in the Bosch handbook that tells you which plugs to use for which vehicle and it told me to get the WR9DC+ S9-16 or something like that. What are the "S" values for and do I get the 7 or the 9...and with what S value? If I still should get the WR7 how come the Bosch book tells me something different? Not disputing anything you've told me but just wanting to make sure I get the right thing.
Also what leads should I get, there are heaps of them there and I would have no idea which ones to get as far as part numbers go. Does it really matter so long as they reach far enough? There are no sets of 8 leads...there are silly amounts like a set of five or seven though. Dumb Bosch!
I think the Bosch plugs (both the WR7 and the WR9s) come set to 0.8mm. Should I still get them down to a 0.7mm gap?
So many questions, I hope I can figure this out on my own, if I know I can sort this car out myself I'll be a happy camper...with lots of your help of course :D
