    Stuck auto trans dipstick

Just wondering if anyone has had probs of getting the auto trans dipstick out? On my 300tdi d1 it is stuck and it's so stuck that I ripped the head off the dipstick. Wanted to check auto trans as it seems to be overreving in first when taking off cold but once hot it's fine. Any ideas?

Overrevving as in it holds first when cold to like 4,000rpm ish or overrevving as in slipping/flaring going from 1st to 2nd.

If its the former, it's unlikely to be fluid level related.

Yeah over revving and holding in first when cold until it hits around 3000rpm but that's cause I know it's happening so I back off the loud pedal a bit.

    Try adjusting the kickdown cable.
I believe this is generally what controls the gear changes on the auto box.
Something like 38mm?? I think is standard from the end of the adjusting screw to the locking nut.
I think you will find yours is fairly tight even at idle posititon.
Loosen the kickdown cable by a fair bit, but make sure you know where it was before you start, just in case this is all bollocks.

Thanks mate will give it a try. Don't understand though why it does it when only cold though.

I wouldn't adjust it, particularly if its working properly when warmed up.

The governor is getting blocked by clutch material and other particles from normal wear. It's quite a common problem. It's not all bad news, because despite being annoying the gearbox can go on for a long time working perfectly well like this.

There are a few band-aid fixes such as changing the governor in situ, but the problem will return. The only way to cure it properly is to rebuild the whole transmission and replace the lines and cooler and torque convertor which will be harbouring the contaminates too.

    Ashcroft Transmissions <<--- bottom question.

Adjusting it won't do any harm, and it can be returned to previous very easily.
You never know you might be pleasantly surprised.

Had to adjust it anyways as it was fairly tight. I had this prob when I first got my rig back but it seemed to go away on it's own. It happens when he changed my auto trans fluid so we see how we go hey.
