Both are 3.54:1
Just a quick question , have to change the front centre in a disco 1 petrol auto 3.5 92 model pre facelift. getting a diff from a RRC wich is a 10 spliner like my diff , just curious how many gearing changes there were from one to the other or were they all the same... just need the heads up on weather id need to make a good diff from 1 etc... any info at all would be appreciated
Both are 3.54:1
thankyou , once again the knowlage on this forum have proven to be worth its weight in gold.
later model diffs run a fine spline axle but it looks like you are already aware of this so the diffs should be interchangable. The casings changed slighty over the years with the position of the filler plug being moved. Very early RR's had the filler in the diff. Later models had it in the pumpkin.
cheers for that , yeah this is a later one with the filler in the housing late 80s i think it was maybe even early 90s , should be the same , has the same dampener mount on it etc and its a 10 spliner like my disco one.. just have to learn how to go easy on the right foot
Straight swap![]()
Another silly diff question, in this case talking 92 disco 1 v8 auto with 10 splines , the later 24 spline diffs if i were to get the axles etc and put 24 spline centres in place of my old 10 spline jobbies is this a strait bolt in affair , just asking because i want to order some rover track units to help minimise breakages. Any information would be a help, i did search but couldnt find a definate yes / no answer. however i may have been having a kiddy look insted of a mummy look. cheers. dan.
yep just swap em over.
rear 24 spline diff and axle.
front - diff, axle, cv
cheers , here we come 35s.. broken cw and pinions here we come also... =]
I have a 95 Tdi with front Maxi drive and Arb rear with Hi Toughs.
I have 24 spline front & rear, but you can interchange the centres from 10's to 24's, but housings do differ as previous posts mention.
At present l am running 35' Treps, with no issues and doing mostly rock work.
I have not broken a CV or stub axle so far !!!
I use a RR 88 front end which the Cv's are as almost as tough as County CV's
The first thing l did was upgrade the axles to Hi Toughs.
I broke an axle almost straight way on 33's with the rear ARB Locker on standard axles.
Main thing from lots of expereince is look at the hi Toughs or equivilent on either 10 or 24 splines, and go from there.
Mainly if you intend to really do the creek runs etc.
FYI you can look at my car at the top of page, show your mods.
If you need advise , happy to help as my car is fully enhanced from front to rear.
Best of luck !! Worth the challenge, as you will have the ability to tackle some extreme tracks !!
Cheers Dave
