just check the shaft for wear marks, should indicate where it has been for the most part of its life. and if it is any different now... then it possibly has been adjusted

i'm going to perform the basic pump tweak this week, just adjusting the stop screw.
I've been reading The Good Oil so know what do and all, sounds like a fairly fool proof method to get a bit of extra kick off the lineAlso fitted a Thermoguard EGT last week so can safely play around a bit.
Anyhoo, is there a way to tell if the Stop Screw has already been adjusted from it's standard position?
I don't know if the previous owner had it tickled or not. I'm assuming not, as it's slow (was barely quicker than a new Pajero that was towing a big caravan, from a traffic light stand still!) Also she blows next to no smoke. A little bit down low in 2nd gear, but nothing else noticeable.
Or is the standard position sort of irrelevant? From what i've read, it sounds like this adjustment is done more by eye than measurement i.e. smoke levels and exhaust temp

uumm I think there may be a bit more to it than just playing with one screw.
Having said that, have you removed the center muffler, then next would be the intercooler, then I would start playing around.
If you want off the line to improve. the with a manual you would be looking at the fueling before boost. with an auto almost the same thing but a wee bit different.
yep centre muffler is out (new exhaust will come in the future) and standard intercooler but recently gave it a flush (new pipes/hoses are on the cards as well)
From what i understand, it's the stop screw position that adjusts off boost fuel, so it is just playing with one screw
i'll look into a proper tune of the spring seat and diaphragm after a trip away this long weekend!

I started to play around with mine after putting in a egt gauge but there's alot more to it than playing with just the off boost adjustment. For what it's worth I took it to a landy place here in vic and for $100 they tweaked it good and proper. Where I was running standard boost or just under I am running now on 15.5psi and man does she pull. Also told that it would be the most to get out of it as it's a auto, manuals pulls alot harder I'm told but very happy with the outcome. Basically he tweaked the diaphram, star wheel and adjusted the fueling to rub just that little richer. There are heaps of info on here about the tweaks but the main thing I can say from everything is make sure you mark your old settings as it's very easy to get to eager and adjust everything to get the most from our engines. Also forgot to mention he up't the boost as well.
