    Park brake ratchet adjustment

    Hi all,
I have a problem whereby the button on the end of the park brake leaver sticks in and won't release. This means that the handbrake won't hold on, instead it just releases when you lower the leaver. After taking the handle off, I can't seem to enable the botton to stay out without manually fiddling with the shaft and leaver assembly the button is attached to. There is obviously a spring type setup within the handle but I seem to have sticktion and the spring is no longer able to push the button out.

Has anyone had any history with this type of problem, and is it fixable or do I head off to my local landrover spares paddock and pick up another leaver?

    I have a 1994 Disco
    cheers

Yep, had a similar problem after I removed the handbrake cable to take the centre console trim off. If you look along the bottom of the metal lever there is a point where the two sides meet to form a cylinder for the handle. I used a flat bladed screwdriver to slightly lever apart the seam at this point which seemed to fix the 'sticky' button.

Oh yeah, mine's a '97 manual so I assume they're the same setup.

    Cheers
    Simon

yep, i had a similar problem and like the horse above i fiddled with the handle a bit and also lubricated it generously,.[ don't be rude!]
i found that the button is screwed onto the shaft and i unscrewed it and cleaned the inner bore and the button, put it all back together and 'hey presto' it worked.
