I was under the impression max tyre width increase allowed was 1.3x
I need to fit MT tyres to a Disco 1 1993 Tdi 200
Are the tyres listed in the LR Users Manual the largest tyres recommended by LR?
The insurers said that if I exceed the Qld Transport spec' the vehicle is considered to be unroadworthy and it will not be covered by insurance.
Can anyone help with this have I got this mixed up?
Tyres specified in the LR Users Manual
205 70R 16 Overall dia = 693mm
235 70R 16 Overall dia = 735mm
Last year after speaking to the insurers I fitted 245 70R 16 AT's OD = 749mm (735 + 14 = 749mm)
Qld transport lists the following for vehicles with two beam axles.
Queensland Transport
Max' increase in over all wheel dia' = 15mm
Max' increase in tyre width 1.5 times
Max' increase in track 50mm
Over the manufacturers max specified tyre/wheel
Thanks Ollie

as I cant put on the tyres I want due to the rules I am going to get it all engineered cost moe but I get what I want in the end
Does anyone know how you get tyres etc engineered in Qld, who do you contact?
Thanks Ollie
How you doing Ollie.
I tried to find someone in QLD who could do this only a few weeks ago and found that it's impossible. I spoke to an engineer who deals with this sort of thing and he basically said, no chance. He did however mention that the laws were changing to a national standard. Unfortunately no one knows how far away this is. He told me to keep an eye out on https://www.dotars.gov.au/ for any further developments.
Hope this helps, cheers
Thanks Scouse that makes sense the LR manual lists
Standard 205 R16 Radial (80% = 734mm)
Alternative 235/70 R16 Radial (70% = 735mm)
Stating the obvious the speedo would read the same with both. When we bought the Disco it was fitted with 235/70 R16.
The vehicle mod' sheet from Qld Transport looks like it was taken from the Australian National Spec' - Vehicle Standards Bullitin 14 - National Code of Practise NCOP Feb 2006
NCOP - Overall diameter
The OD of any tyre fitted to a passenger car or passenger car derivative must not be more than15mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designation by the vehicle manufacturer for that model.
The OD of any tyre fitted to an off-road passenger vehicle or a commercial vehicle must must not be more than 50mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designation by the vehicle manufacturer for that model.
Qld Transport
The overall diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm larger than the OE diameter wheel and tyre and not more than 26mm smaller than the OE diameter wheel and tyre.
I will call QT tomorrow.
