This is what happens when you change oil every 5000kms...

Just put a new head on after limping home from Morocco, after blowing the original head gasket....at 314,000kms

    [IMG][/IMG]

I am the 2nd owner of my 1995 truck and it has a full service history from new(even after 10years !!)...the man before me even left it in to a garage to get the oil/filters done etc...I have had it 5 years and still keep the servicing at every 5k...

Anyway...as can be see..these pictures explain why I never used oil between changes...the original Land Rover factory honing marks are still apparent in the original cylinders...any carbon that was on the pistons just wiped off with a rag...

Just shows you that oil is a cheap mechanic...

    Just sayin' like..

Why do the bores look really porus? Is that normal? I have never seen bores like that before.

I don't think they are porous or pitted.

I think it's droplets of water on the cylinder walls. It probably looks that way due to surface tension on the oil on the cylinder walls.

I'm with Ron, i reckon it's just water droplets from taking off the head.

Ohlins, have you ever had the sump off and checked the big ends ?
A lot here need shells replaced at your milage, regardless of oil type or change intervals.
