    Major service overhaul

    Okay, so getting a little bit scared about my 305,000km 300tdi so I figure it is time to do a major overhaul of the rig... Seeing as how it now has a new head, it would be a shame if something were to let go.. So I am starting to form a list in my mind as to what needs doing.. so far I have (feel free to add to this)

    1. Timing belt and front crank seal
    2. Big ends (after some light reading lately)
    3. Wheel bearings
    4. Vac pump.
    5. Radiator
    6. Water pump
    7. Hoses (including all fuel lines)
    8. Fuel lift pump.


    Is there anything else I need to add here ?? Will be ordering all the gear through Paddocks.. So should be somewhere reasonable price wise..

    Then to add to this I have the mods list..

    1. 4.11 CW&P
    2. Detroit Rear locker
    3. Axles in the back end..

    And that should just about finish her off

    One good thing re the wheel bearings is that the front and rear are identical.
    Also, there are some threads to turn the rears to oil lubed from the diff...

    Make the front wheel bearings oil lubed too.

    Yes, this will also be done. But is there anything else that I am missing major part wise? I hardly think that converting the wheel bearings to oil lubed is a huge issue.. I am more interested in the consumables that need to be replaced on the engine/car.

    Check the condition of the rubber uni joint on the rear tail shaft and if you replace, replace the bush in the end of it

    How about:

    viscous fan hub
    serpentine belt
    serpentine belt tensioner
    a/c belt
    all idler pulley bearings and a/c pulley bearing
    auto trans filter kit
    thermostat

    Also check out the condition of the 2inch? main hose from the fuel filler to the tank, these crack over time.

    Check IC hoses and blow out IC.

    Harmonic balancer.

    Low water alarm working.

    Engine mounts, I found they tend to split at that mileage.

    Will be doing all these as well.. apart from the auto thing.. Cant stand an auto in a 4WD, hence I dont have one.
    Just replaced the thermostat with the new head. But the pulleys and stuff do need to be replaced. Along with all the belts. Cheers!
