    TDi Engine numbers

    I recently bought a 94 TDi with 5 speed as a project (as if I did not have enough to do), built June 94 which I believe is first of 300's. Engine number starts with 18L, checking on wiki and other sites does not gel, only get 16L and 23L, no 18L. Does anyone know where I can get engine numbers so I can figure out what I have actually got.

    Easier to tell from having a quick look.

    200: Vee belts, separate exhaust manifold and normal turbocharger
    300: Serpentine drive belt with sprung tensioner, arse about turbo

    18L = Disco 300tdi manual
    20L = Disco 300tdi auto

    This applies to all 300tdi Discos that were sold here.

    Further to Scouse, I believe 17L-22L were 300Tdi engines and 200Tdi were all 12L.

    300Tdi should have R380 manual box (Reverse near 5th), 200Tdi should have LT77 (R past 1st).

    So yours should be a 300Tdi with R380 manual box.

    I read on another forum that for the 300 some or all of the ancillaries have serpentine belts, which it does, where as the 200 has V belts. With all the info so far I think there is not much doubt it is a 300.
