what do you think needs doing?

Hey guys, my 94 disco is booked in for a major service in 4 weeks but the last 2 days, it lacks power until the engine is warm and then after about 1/2 hour of driving, it stalls when idling. Is there anything I can look at while it gets a service? It has new air filter already so any pointers?

    Thanks

I would say start with new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor. The rotor should be a genuine lucas one.

You should also clean the IAC valve and clean around the throttle body, oil lines to it, and remove and clean the sensor wires in the MAF with electronic cleaning spray.

I am sure the combination of these things will cure the problem. If not you have a more serious problem.

Hey, checked the MAF (clean as a whistle) and the dizzy (all well there) but the IAC valve was filthy. A few squirts of carby cleaner and some rags later, all seems good. Idles at approx 600 without issue. Will test further tomorrow.

Just a quickie, I've tried searching as I'm sure it's there but must be using wrong phrases etc...

Anyone able to tell me what k's I should be getting to a tank? I'm sure that 170km's to 3/4 of a tank is a little on the low side!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Is your timing still set to standard advance? Petrol seems to run better between 5 and 10 degrees advance at idle. Try it and see.

thanks for that, I'll check (if someone can tell me how?!?!) could it be to do with the vac advance as I think it has bitten the dust!

    1. Visit an auto store. 2. Buy a timing light. 3. Experiment! Buying a tool and learning how to use it is very satisfying.
