hey gang, long time since i've posted on here....

can anyone tell me if the D2 transfer case is a straight bolt on to the D1 discovery, my transfer case is the LT230T model.. its screwed, and im currently looking for one, problem is that being on one income with a morgage and a family makes life a bit difficult.. if anyone knows of one can you please let me know,

    thanks heaps

should do, all the lt230's are the same basic shape, some little things change like the linkages and the internal gear ratios but nothing I recall stops you from bolting any lt230 to any other box.

I might know where theres one coming up off of a vehicle thats a write off. The Tcase is in "workable" condition. Depending on what the owner wants to do with the vehicle (or whats left of it) it might be up for grabs.

Yes. A lot of D2 2000 - 2002 owners replace their non CDL TC for D1 TC.
If your going the other way, don't forget to swap the front output housing if required. Otherwise you will own the only D1 with no CDL.
    Good luck.

What you will lose by going to a non-D2 transfer case is the low range switch which changes the throttle mapping. I'd be inclined to try to replace it with another D2 transmission if possible, but others do apparently work.

the reason why im asking about the D2 transfer case is just to expand my search on a reasonable replacement transfer case, i'd prefer to get another D1 case, but just incase then i know i can look further...

i've looked on ebay for disco's being wrecked, alot are interstate, hoping to find one in sydney i can snap up.. might have a quick check on the tradingpost website to see what else is available there too..

    mine is a 300tdi 5speed disco, will the 300tdi auto and v8 auto/manual D1 trasnfer case's fit too?

yep so long as it starts with LT230 it should bolt up...

and workable meaning that the vehicle its in can be driven around so the thing works but its overall condition is not known, it might whine it might not. The vehicle was purchased for some driveline parts and the brakes.

Sorry, I have made an error here. I was thinking you were running a D2, not a D1

A D2 transfer case may not work for you. You may need to confirm this, but I thought the D1 has a cable driven speedo with the drive coming from the transfer case. The D2 has an electronic speedo and so LR apparently removed the speedo output from the LT230's which were used in them.

last thing i want to do is get anyone (or myself) into trouble with the admin by turning this into a thread where someone sells me something without it going into the right part of this forum, i appreciate your kindness though, (mindyou, i think it would kill me in frieght costs from Tassie to sydney...

however i must say that im not interested in a complete car, as i stated earlier, we are on one income with a morgage, so im trying to do this as cheap as i can.

    thanks again though
