Camping Fridges in rear of Disco

Im looking to buy a decent sized camp fridge/freezer for the weekend aways.

Problem I have is the 70L model I'd like is 1020mm long and I've got around 650mm to play with when seats are upright.

My question how how others got around this? Is there a sideways slide available or do you just buy a smaller fridge?

Any pics of setups and size info would be good.

    Cheers.

I have a 40L Engel and it fits neatly in the boot and the door when closed puts enough pressure on it to stop it sliding around. Works great but maybe too small for you...

70L is a BIG fridge, I have the new model (plastic) 38L Engel it fits perfectly on my slide, and I usually go away for a week at a time and with all the meals (pre-packed/cooked) 5 cartons of milk, desserts, marg, fruit, bread and drinks i have never filled it over half way, I really can't see why you would need a 70L fridge for just weekends away, not to mention that they pull about twice the Amps of a 38/40L fridge, Regards Frank.

Waeco CF-50 in mine, on a waeco fridge slide. TIGHT fit, so tight I took the waeco plastic handles off cos they stick out so far and made up my own handles.

The genuine waeco fridge slide is also better than most generic slides as they are pretty slim width wise.

I think this is the biggest fridge that will fit going the "proper" way, ie, not sideways.

Sorry no pics handy but I will take some later.

I found the same thing with my CF-50 yesterday, a very tight fit. It would be good to see some some pics of your slide as I am trying to work out the best way to secure it in the back, and also the syle of handles you have made up.

Rez I run a 40lt engel on a Piranha fridge slide in my D1. It fits very VERY tight. With a bit of modification you can do it. The answer to your question on your fridge slide is i know that both Engel and Waeco do a side ways slide for your size fridge. In regards to packing your fridge, we can feed a family of 4 for 1 1/2 weeks out of our fridge. Try using UHT milk cryovac your meat (some butchers will do this) and we use the '1 can in 1 can out' princable.

    Cheers

I ended cutting a square of sound deadning and carpet out of the floor. Then i cut a plate out of a sheet of Aluminium (you could use MDF) the same of the floor and bolted the slide to the plate. Carpet back in, shelf system back in, fill the fridge and go bush! I did end up bolting my fridge to the slide as i had rubber feet on my fridge.

Do you have a cargo barrier, as they eat a few more cms of space.
I think I'll have to mount mine sideways

i have a 40L Engel in a D1... i had to modify the cargo barrier and remove one handle to get it to go in 'depthways'....

I didn't completely cut out the cargo barrier section. I just cut through the centre of the section that was in the way and then folded it towards the rear of the back seat.

fridge fits very snug and I prefer to have it 'depthways' rather than along the width of the rear.....in theory it takes up the same amount of space no matter which way you put it, but in practice it is much easier to pack the rest of our kit in when the fridge is on one side.
