Auto Transfer slipping out of High Range

Noticed that the tranfer box on my D1 Auto is now constantly slipping out of High range into neutral.. the only way I could drive it around on Sunday was by maintaining pressure on the leaver. It was especially bad on down hills (no acceleration) where, even with pressure, was at times slipping out and then back in to High.

So, is this a linkage thing that needs adjusting? Can anyone tell me how best to takle this job as I have a 2" body lift?

    Cheers.

Sorry can't help you but I had the same problem with low range. I had a 2.5" body lift soon after I bought car, never put in low prior to this so don't know if the lift was responsible but I think it was.

However, it was as simple as an adjustment underneath, according to shop who fixed it. I also had problems with centre diff locking, adjustment fixed that as well. Took 2 people, one inside wiggling lever and another underneath watching and adjusting.

I ended up crossing simpson and doing quite a few 4wd trips without a properly working centre diff and low range popping out under load....... It felt like a new car after finally getting it all sorted out!

FYI - Got under the Disco today and looked at the linkages. The one that hooks with the transfer lever has quite a lot of play. I adjusted the arm (loosen the nuts and adjust tighter) and hopefully this works. Certainly it doesnt pop out anymore, but I suspect that if it does again then ill need to replace the arm of the transfer box... hopefully not tho!

haha - your right I recon

Seems to be fine now, but ill test when I get a chance... but ill carry the long screw driver in case so that I can shift the lever in all the way if theres still too much play in the linkage.
