    ABS Sensor Seal

This is what I get for making a cocky comment.

Replaced my front ABS sensors, thats the easy part, anyway, a few days later noticed there was a stack of oil dripping from the drivers side hub, Checked it and the oil was coming from the abs sensor, voila the abs seal had failed, where to get a new one, tried the local bearing place after all a seal is a a seal, took the old one in, anyway to cut a long story short, ended up buying 4 over a 2 week period different sizes , the size that closely matched the original seal would not go into the hole. no mater how hard i tried to get it to go in squarely. Lubed greased even spat on still coudn;t slip in, My bearings man suggested I get a dremel and chamfer the side of the hole to make fitting easier. In the end I gave up and bought 4 from a supplier in the UK. They and postage were cheaper than 2 bought here!
    Figuring that NS would work,
guess what the first one tapped in squarely, shaved part of the rubber off the side and bent the steal reinforcing ring of the seal, I carefully did this 3 more times. the hole is smaller than the seal and not tapered!!!! Now I have one unused seal left. the hub is still leaking,

My question is , has anyone or does anyone know where or how an average person , ie me, fits one of the bloody rubber things. i have reached a stage of utter frustration, the land rover novelty is gradually wearing off as nothing is simple on these things.

I have pulled down and rebuild european sleeved engines, aussie engines done up gearboxes and they are simple compared to a simple abs seal on a discovery.

    HELP.

Hi John, sorry didn't see the post!

I have one in stock if you need it, it is a very easy job. Remove the sensor, and the top plate that supports the brake hose/s. This will meen removing the 2 swivel pin bolts so expect to loose some oil. Just hook out the seal and push in the new one, reassemble and bobs your relative!

    Give me a call tomorrow if you like, 0408 995 635 or (03) 6229 1102.

That was good justin, have removed the bolts, then remembered reading something similar a few years ago, from someone who redid theirs in the carpark at work, I remember the front diff was sitting on a block of wood.
Anyway, your right the remain oil leaks out, just have to get some loctite 270 ( thats what the manual says to use) for the bolts and its done, just goes to show, i should have cleaned all the oil and gunk off and that plate would have been more obvious, or maybe taken more care in looking at the schematic breakdown.

    many thanks for the advice.
    it all helps.
