    Diesel Engine Options for 300Tdi

Has anyone out there considered transplanting one of the following engines into a series 1 Discovery?

    - TD4 from the current Freelander
    - TDV6 2.7 from series 3 Disco
    - 2.4 from current defender

I know these have electronic controls, but if you could get all the bits.

PS: Would any of the above bolt to a R380 & transfer?

    cheers

Joe Hawkes at Airlie Beach has a new aluminium Detroit Diesel 3-53N available. Made for the US Army snow tractors. Can be turbocharged, intercooled, and blower bypassed and give 200 big yankee horses. Or left standard and still miles more grunt than anything Land Rover installed. Fan to flywheel weight is about 200kgs.

Brian, what RPM do these motors rev to (safely), these engines are only 159cu.in. was wondering what sort of torque they put out, Regards Frank.

It would have to be a very well priced DEISEL or a very very good Series 1!

It is a very very good Series One. One owner since new (Me!) Only thing is now I have a family and we go camping/caravaning with a Pop top. Need just a little nit more for the tropics and overtaking roadtrains on the single lane roads up here in the territory.
The yanks can keep their crap. wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Anyone remember the Jackeroo diesel that needs TWO batteries for starting!
Like a few owners on here, the wife says I'll be buried in the bloody thing before I sell it.
I like the idea of mechanical injection so it can be fixed on the side of a road without having to fly in a L/Rover rep with a laptop to fix in the middle of nowhere. Besides what other 4X4 can get you 7.5l/100km ACTUAL consumption not advertised consumption. I've had it down to 6.8L one time sitting on 90km/h

Well that leaves out all those listed above as they are computer controlled common rail motors, there is a guy in the UK with a TDV6 in a defender.

Put the car on D-gas, that will give you more poke and a bit more range.
