    Vac Advance

so yesterday i was installing the engine saver gadget that i recently purchased and was disconnecting hoses to install this neatly and while things were everywhere I decided to check the vac advance to see if its actually working.

and well no surprises and for the age of the vehicle it was knackered so is this a genuine only product for the original distributor or is there another replacement on the market?

I found one on fleebay for $150 and for that price I'm almost there in buying a scorcher and replacing the lot.

Spike, Performance ignitions in Norcal Rd Nunawading do great change over units with better Diaphrams. Around $60 change over.

Performance Ign. supplied mine on a changeover basis & I think it was them that told me the original diaphragm material was no good in Oz conditions with the extra engine heat.

So much for LR's global field trials & testing for Australian conditions.

I had one for years from them. previously I got a recoed one from the LR Dealer and it only lasted about 8 mths.
PI also told me they use heavier rubber in the rebuild as the engine heat deteriorates the original rubber causing it to split.
I was very happy with PI, I ended up upgrading and fitting their scorcher Dizzy system.

For vacuum advance units I go to Jaguar, Range Rover and Discovery at Newmarket in Brisbane Phone 33565255 the owner is Murray and he is very knowledgable on all Rover stuff. He sells a rebuilt unit for about $90 but when I got mine he was out of stock so he sold me a good s/hand one for $50. He brings in vehicles for dismantling from I think Hong Kong as he believes they have little use there.
    Hope this helps
