So according to the dealer, the sunroof seal has collapsed in a couple of places due to age. The repairer has 'packed the seal' (whatever that means) & they claim it's now watertight.

Personally I'm highly skeptical; still, I'll give it a good hose tonight and see if it leaks. Even if it doesn't, If Rover Land isn't happy with the seal repairs on Monday, I'll be taking it back.

The sunroofs on my RRC, D1 & d3 all leaked most when the vehicle was pointing down hill. Parked up hill and I did not have a problem.

Remember when watering the roof you will also need to have sufficient water volumes coming in so that it becomes visible inside the car and is not just soaked up and hidden in the roof lining. You might be better off parking it in the rain overnight and then checking the carpets to see if they are wet in the morning.

Even if the seal is not watertight, the drain tubes should still be able to cope with the small amount of water getting through so I suspect you will be visiting the dealer again - sorry.

We picked the Disco (since named Morgana - our '70 Series 2 FFT is Rosemary) up from the dealer, who had Precision Sunroofs repair the seals. It's bucketing down at the moment (radar is solid blue around Melbourne) so we'll see how she holds up overnight. Any sign of moisture inside & she's back to the dealer a second time.

We've already driven over 1,000km in her, on a weekend trip to Buchan and back. My wife and I both love driving her - plenty of character, but a lot easier to live with than our Series 2 on a daily basis.

I saw a thread somewhere (probably on here) and a guy with a leaky sunroof shown photo's of the floor completely rusted out, might be worth taking a peek under the carpets to check that water has not made its way down to the floor.
