Early D1 and 94 Update D1 had belt anchors on the tunnel. Their seat bases were also prone to cracking. I don't have exact date to hand but I think late 96 the bases and anchors were changed.
I think I have been misunderstood. The entire seat + base can not be swapped from side to side as the seats sit on the bases at an offset to account for the transmission tunnel. The seat itself if unbolted from the metal base can - but this is not what the OP asked about.
Early Discos do not have the seatbelt attached to the seat (at least the 94YM and 95YM I used to own did not), I don't know when this changed as my current 98MY Tdi does not have them attached to the seat either - but my current 2002 Disco does.

Hi guys,
I recently had the same problem with my seat and had it repaired. Someone suggested to me at the time that a good temporary fix could be done with cable ties, might save you swapping seats around until you can have it off the road for a day.
If you have the early 94 with the seat belt anchor NOT attached to the seat assembly then you can swap the seat as they have the same distance from the side to the anchor points. the seat base cannot be swapped as it has a lean built into it as the floor of the DI slopes towards the door.
Obviously this only works if you dont have an arm rest attached to the seat!!
also the early DI's have a quite narrow seat frame, if you with to update / upgrade you will more than likely have to make brackets for the new seats to attach to. RRC and later discos will not bolt straight up

Thanks for all the input guys
I think I'll just unbolt it and drop it in to the trimmer and get Kim to drive the D2 for a couple of days.
The weather's improving - as in the morning's aren't 1 deg anymore - so I can use the (heaterless) Subaru to get to work in :P
Cheers
