Thanks Guys, I put the mod kit on last time I changed the belt (mid 2003) as I have only done 38k since then so I will just replace the belt only as the pulleys and bearings should be ok.
I'm thinking of milling an inspection hole in the alloy casing so I can insect the belt in future, I saw some photo's once from someone who had done this. Should be no problem as long as the hole/slot is sealed with something like a strong gaffa tape to stop crap entering I guess

Would a blind gromet be a better seal than gaffa tape?
Any dirt etc through the hole will chew up that new belt.

hot climates
landy mechanic up here told me that belts in hot climates should be replaced almost at half 'normal' life. Heat and dust are killers, and also factor in if the engine does a fair bit of idling. that takes it's toll too.
I just had a kit fitted to a defender that had no history when i bought it. mechanic said i was the luckiest bloke in town. belt only had half it's width remaining!! you'd have to be nuts to take a gamble on a timing belt.

Has this been done to death or what?
Timing belt every 80k km's or six years which ever comes first.
How hard is that?
Does anyone not get it? really!
