Thread: R380 gearbox in 300TDI

Lately I have been having a mild problem with selecting 3rd gear. Mainly going down from 4th into 3rd and sometimes the other way. (3rd to 4th). The gear selector seems a bit tight to get out of that 3rd/4th gear. It seems to only happen when it is extremely hot. Up here in Darwin it averages about 34-37 this time of year. Has anyone had similar problems and what it might be? Could it be as simple as an oil change?

Changing the oil is probably the quickest and cheapest thing to try. What is in it at the moment?
