    Breathing problems in front diff.. best fix?

    G'day all,

    I not long ago acquired a somewhat challenged D1 and I'm currently trying to overcome some of the challenges by doing stuff myselfand NOT spending too much money!

    Somehow the banjo bolt that attaches the breather tube to the front diff has broken.

    Its very tight to get into there, and not much bolt to work with.

    Any ideas on fixing this...?

    Get a GOOD quality set of "EZY OUTS" and screw in (left handed) and you should have no problem removing the broken part of the bolt, replace with a brass elbow fitting with a barb to suit the size hose you are going to use, stick a fuel filter on the open (top) end and secure (zip ties) as high as you can get it in your engine bay, good luck, Regards Frank.

    you can also try tapping in the head of a torqz bit or pozidrive driver bit from a screwdriver set then turning that out with a spanner. if that ownt get it the easy out will.

    Yes totally agree with Tank, the ezy outs are the best way to get the old threaded bolt out. You may find that you will need a little heat to loosen the thread if it is well and truely stuck.Rethreading the hole isnt a bad idea once you get the old bolt out, using a bit of never cease on the new thread so it doesnt happen again. You will need to change the diff oil once you are done as you will find that there is a good chance you will enevitably drop rust and metal filings as well as dirt into the diff housing. Best to change it if you are unsure anyway as a small amount of dirt now in your oil coud cost alot more in parts later.

    Thanks guys.

    I went and bought some Ezy Outs and the residual bolt came out, umm... easy!

    Then went and purchased a 90 degree threaded brass elbow fitting and some new hose, fitteg the elbow wnd ran the hose way up high in the engine bay.

    Next will be some new oil in the diff. Whats the best stuff to use?

    Hi what size thread is it? I want to do mine and is the rear the same size?
