disco will not start on petrol

hi all, my disco 1 3.9 v8 was being driven on petrol when it ran out and engine died ... the wife them switched over to the gas and it ran fine. after filling it up with petrol it will not start, on petrol. it starts on gas no problem.
i have checked the fuse for the fuel pump, and its ok. the fuel filter is also new. the fuel pump relay clicks when attempting to start, so i think thats ok..
is it possible to kill the fuel pump by running it dry, or is it something simple ??

A most common problem, that. Fuel pumps have an approximately 2 minute life span when run dry. You can replace the standard fuel pump with a Bosch BFP772 pump (suit Commodore etc) This can be easy or hard, depending on where your petrol and gas tanks are located relative to each other. The standard petrol tank has the pump accessible via a hatch in the back floor, under the carpet.

Same happened to me once, ran out of fuel and then ran on gas.The fuel pump crapped itself pretty quickly. The commodore pump suits a VN I think by memory and cost about $110 mid last year .

One thing worth pointing out with the commodore pump is that the rubber gasket seal is different so take care of your to use it again and use some good sealant also.
