Plenty of threads on here about cleaning intercoolers.
I tried a couple of different things, but ended up with the most success by using kerosene.
Make sure you give it a good wash out with hot water etc afterwards and dry it well in the sun or with a hairdrier etc. Any solvent left in the intercooler provides fuel for the engine to burn, and can cause it to runaway - even until the engine destroys itself in some cases.

Yup, Kero and then high strength detergent like neat truckwash or similar. Allow to dry in sun OR use HOT water to rinse, then drain thoroughly..

    dieseo works fine

    I flush about this way

    dieseo
    soapy water
    fresh water

if the fresh water comes out mucky repeat. when you get a clean fresh water rinse

blow out with hot air from a hairdrier or from a venturi flush type gun (the longer the better)

i used super-cheaps degreaser, rinse and then left it air for a few days.
mind you i was changing the timing belt at the time plus the car was off the road so i had the time to leave it airing

I usually use white spirit but have used degreaser.

Either way, an easy way to dry it out is to jam a hair dryer into either the inlet or outlet and let it rip

It's a big pro jobbie, bought it through a mate who was a hairdresser
But no curling wand attachment. Not enough hair with the current haircut.

It normally lives in the ute, but can't find it ATM
Hope i haven't left it on a job somewhere.
It's brilliant at defrosting Mrs Jones' iced up fridge evaporator, shrinking heat shrink, etc, etc.

melting the seals and solder on ally
    burning rubber hoses
melting the plastic shroud behind the wire youre trying to heat shrink.
heating up the metal panel beside the part you're trying to heat soak so you burn your hand..

    most importantly

    cooking jaffles.
