Cab cracks
Was chasing a noise in front of my D1 and came across cracks in firewall where the mounts are. Is this a common problem with the D1's?? The poor old girl gets a hard life with a bit of air time now and again. Does anyone have any idea's on strengthening this area?
Thanks RAD

I was chatting to Fred Smith a couple of years back and he said it had been a very common thing for some production runs. Eventually LR started to laminate the firewall at that point. He said he had fixed a few, but he charged a very significant amount and referred to it as being a very unpleasant job but in not so many words.
In the first model Discos it involved a huge amount of dismantling to gain access from the inside. His solution was to braze a new plate on with multiple holes drilled in it and then plugged with filler rod. Contamination was an issue because of all the anti-corrosion agent that gets sprayed on at the factory.
Not what you wanted to hear, but take comfort in the fact that many, many Discos have the same issue and it's never that much of a problem.

Thanks Macman
Pulled out carpets & linings this afternoon & have started removing the old laminated interior plate.Have to remove so that I can weld up the cracks and then will make up a larger plate to reinforce. Will do the drill holes and plug weld. Hopefully I will get a few crack free years out of it
