Probably worth getting some Loctite 620 hi temp retaining compound as well.

timing is to the book at 6 deg, now it idels like crap. hunts up and down, 500 - 750 rpm.
what about the base idle? If this is too low the engine will hunt up and down as the ECU and (slow) stepper motor trys to stop it stalling, especially when loaded up, eg., with head lights on.

i thought that the base idle was not ajustable?

3/16 inch allen key in that round alloy hole on top of the throttle area of the manifold. Unscrew it with the engine hot and idling until it increases the idle, then screw it back in about 1 turn more or less. Makes things much smoother. It allows the ECU to bring up the revs higher when needed, like a/c use, starting up etc...

Also unscrew the idle stepper and blast it with some contact cleaner. Sometimes this helps.

ok cool, but not sure where the allen key should go?
just about every thing has been cleaned
found another 3 lose trumpets this morning, thay took a bit of wiggling to get out, all locked back in now, give the locktight another 20minits and i will kick her in the guts.

Stand in front of the open bonnet. Put your hand on the air intake hose to the inlet manifold. Look at the raised cast alloy ring about 1/2 inch in diameter, facing straight up, about 1 inch from the hose. It's closer to the firewall side of the inlet. There may be a plug in the top which you remove by using a PK screw. Throw the plug away. Stick the 3/16 allen key in the hole and rotate anticlockwise.

You split the plenium housing .... Did you use a sealant on the join? when putting it back together

I'll vote for vacuum leak ... Either that or you left the MAF plug off

Check for the little black vacuum hose on the Stepper motor is connected

i asume the stepper motor is the thing on the back of the plenium

i dint leave a hose off, but i had pulled off at the othere end, close to the brake booster

Yes .... That little black hose goes to the fuel pressure regulator, located on the Fuel rail

So are you saying that you don't have a vacuum leak??
