@Ian_T: Any specific ATs you recommend?
Other than the OME mitichies (205 these were the ones I let down to 10 or 12 never had to do it since), I have am using Cooper AT (235/75/16 second set) and I think they work well. However I was talking to a mate with a Pootrol who tows a boat on Frazer Island (drinks petrol like nothing else) he prefers the Cooper ST (he has had both) they clear the sand from the tread better than the AT. I have also noticed BFG alterains seem to work well on sand.

Some time around Chrismas I will put 235/85/16 Cooper ST on mine,(yeah baby) this will require a camel cut, and I am hoping because of the rellative narrow 32" tyre I wont have to spring for springs. (spring lift)
last part could be a tad optimistic me thinks.. you will need a spring lift

I was answering the original posters question as to whether 15" rims will fit over the brakes of a D1.

trobbo - With the Simex 35/6's being 12.5 wide, would that not add extra stability from being on the 15 inch rims offsetting the flex in the sidewall, or is it actually the opposite, and more prone to flex?? And, how much would tyre pressures affect/correct the problem both on and off road??

I've really sorry. I meant to post a separate thread but stuffed it up. By the time I tried to fix it already there were numerous responses.

My bad.

It's all good mate, hope you got the answers you needed to assist.

As said above, some AT's will do wonders, as will your tyre pressures.

They were 10.5 inch wide and I ran them at 40 psi on the road and down to 8 in the bush. it always felt like I would turn the wheel and then have to wait a couple of secs for the tyres to catch up with the input. The harder pressures did help but it was still noticable.

I dont think the width of the tyre would affect how much the sidewalls flex sideways. Rim width may have something to do with it ( I ran them on 7's to stop them popping off the bead at low pressures), and perhaps an 8 inch rim would have made them more stable as the sidewalls would have been less angled.

Personly i think 15's are the go, disco's came out with 16's but as has been said 15's will clear the brakes no probs at all.
One of the biggest advantages with the 15's is tyre prices are usually alot cheaper

Can back up Garrycol and everyone else as I've got 15s on my 95 D1 V8 - no issues getting them on over the brakes.
It's better to regret the things you've done than those you haven't!

I'm running 15" sunnies on my D1 and they fit over the brakes with about 1mm clearance on the back plate. When I play in the mud I sometimes get a scrapping sound from the back plate scrapping on the rim with the mud build up. A few hits with the hammer has helped though.

Can't wait to see the big wheels mate, should be awsome. I thought you were getting a Rangie or have plans changed.
Cheers, David.
