Any Mechanics out there?
G'day
I was going to pull off the pan from my auto trans this after noon and put a new filter in it but I could not believe how tight the oil filler tube is bolted on to the pan!!!
I've used my arm, tried cracking it with a hammer, I've used my foot and some heat from a gas bottle and still it will not budge!
Now I've been around a long time and I was just waiting for the tube to twist where it goes into the pan. But so far so good, that hasn't happened!
So......................Q1. Is it right hand thread?
Q2. How bloody tight should it be and is there the likelihood of it twisting inside the pan?
Q3. Any ideas on how to get it off? OR do you know if I can drop the pan with the filler attached????????
Thanks for any help.

Normal RH thread & they can be tight.
The top of the tube is normally secured by a bellhousing bolt so it's better to undo the troublesome nut.

Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs but be careful using heat on a tranny oil line if you burn the oil inside then drive it there is a very real chance of getting the carbon into all those tiny lines in the valve body or the govenor - then
and yes they can be a mongrel to undo particularly if your not on a hoist

Try loosening the bolt that holds the dipstick tube bolt to the bellhousing, it may be putting tension on the pipe making the nut hard to undo, I know it is in a pig of a spot, but worth giving it a go, let us know how you fare, Regards Frank.

Sorry this might be a bit late but I came across same problem when I did my auto filter a month or so ago. After battling/swearing at it for a while I just gave up - you can drop the whole pan with the dipstick tube still attached, just takes a bit of creative wiggling to drop it down.
Cheers.

Thanks Zuno I may try again at another time.
It started pouring with rain here and I needed the car so I just filled it back up with oil and I'll attempt it at the next oil change.
It was so tight that I was convinced that I was going to twist the tube out of the pan.
But thanks for all the advice I appreciate your help!

Just dose the nut with CRC daily for a week before trying again.
