Firstly, don't worry about the blinkers that is normal!

But the oil light IS a problem! In my experience at motor that has done 270,000 where the oil light is coming on at idle after the engine has warmed up sounds ominous to me.
It "sounds" like your Crankshaft Bearings are worn. BUT, it "could" be the oil pumps pressure valve is sticking.

What can you do???

Well, before you take it back to the guy, or to a Mechanic

Drain the oil from the engine and renew it with a new filter and put in some good oil. If the light STILL comes on after it warms up you need to get it to someone who knows how to identify the problem.

you can put in some oil additives like "Moreys" that can thicken you oil which "may" help with oil pressure, but it looks to me like you are up for new bearings!!??

Normal. The indicator senses bulb current. Without a trailer it comes on once to let you know it's working. With the trailer on it comes on all the time, so if your trailer indicator fails you will know by the light not staying on.

Yep, I use a 15 inch adjustable spanner. You will need a piece of sheet metal folded into a vee to catch the oil or it goes everywhere, jam the piece of metal between the exhaust and engine to direct the oil into a large bucket. Saves on a lot of mess.

Do your brakes work well? Remove all the wheels and have a look at brake linings etc. Remember you will need break-away beakes to be legal, check with your local authority on specific rules.

Wow thanks for the info, yes my trailer has 4 wheel electric brakes and a full brake away system. thanks again for the info very informative.

No worries, so long as your engine isn't totally stuffed you can use a heavier oil too, I use a Penrite HPR30 which is 20W-60 and seems to work well on the V8.

one other thing i forgot to mention is the starter motor whines (makes a whining noise) but the engine starts straight away. i figure i can get a new starter motor easily enough. is this common?

Sure, the starter can develop worn bushes and still function (for the moment). I replaced one in a mate's D1 with a late model V8 starter from the wreckers recently, the Bosch branded one seems to last longest.

Is there any way i can test whether the oil pressure swith is stuffed myself? is it ok to continue to drive the vehicle?

If it was mine I wouldn't drive it until I had established if it really was the switch!

You can unscrew the switch and screw in an adaptor followed by an oil pressure gauge. With the engine idling and the oil hot, the pressure should be 25-55 lb. If the pressure is dropping below 25 lb and the engine is idling at the recommended speed, suspect worn crankshaft bearings,
