    Engine knock

I have 96 v8 man and recently I have a noise that is getting louder. Had it for a few months now and has done 230kms.

I assume slipped liner as what I have found on the forum all points to this. except the car does not use any water or oil. has not overheated with me not to say that it didnt in the past but with engine saver it sits on 86 all day creeped up to 97 in the bush with ac on then went back down.

so the noise well i dont think i can hear it at idle or up to about 2rpm but anything after that its knocks away and doesnt like it when under load.

any advise ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There's the occasional case of intake trumpets in the plenum chamber coming loose. They bang up and down quite loudly with intake pulses. Put your hand on top of the manifold as you rev it up and you may feel their impact. I know I have felt it on a couple of engines, recently an aulro member here had the same problem.

Funny enough the plenum was holding me up as I was investigating and felt vibration / knocking through that, but didnt take too much notice of it as i wasn't sure will try it again tomorrow and see if i can pin point the noise thanks for the information.

a hose to your ear and probe different parts of the motor, you pick up the strongest knock easier

G'day Justinc I have uploaded a file on the below link and would be great if anyone has any ideas what it might be...

The noise really isnt there at start up but as it the engine warms up on comes the noise.

I think I have at least narrowed it down to the passenger side rear but I could be wrong...

You know, I'd also go with an exhaust leak. The OE gaskets on these engines are a steel shim type, I would check the rear manifold bolts for tightness, these are quite common to come loose.

If they are loose, then tighten them and recheck for a noise change.
