Early or late D1?

Early (up to 1994) cars had the same basic mirror as the RRC (from 1986) so that could be an option for parts.

I am in no way trying to hijack your thread but I also have a similar mirror problem I was going to post about when I saw this one.

I have a 1997 Disco and the glass bit of the drivers side mirror needs replacing after it got bumped on a recent trip. The glass is still being held in place but two large vertical cracks aren't really allowing the mirror to do its job very well.

Is replacing the glass part of the mirroe (ie. the actual mirror) an easy enough job or is it one of these jobs that appears simple on the face of it but eventually ends up being as complex and involved as replacing the engine?

Also, where can I get the mirror only? Is it one of these things that is available on its own or does it only come as part of the whole unit?

The glass just clips in place. There's usually a spring clip that needs to be released - move the mirror up & down by hand & have a look behind the glass.
The part # for the drivers side glass is CRD100680 - about $60 from a LR dealer so probably cheaper from the specialists.


The adaptor ring that goes between the glass & the motor (not too sure if it's the part Millhouse is after) is STC4625 (about $8). This is for the 1995-1998MY D1s.

Replacing the mirror glass
1. Press the outer end of the glass inwards to its full extent.
2. Insert the fingers under the inner end of the glass and pull outwards until the glass is released from its two retaining clips.
3. Disconnect the two demister leads attached to the back of the glass unit.
4. To replace the glass, locate the inner end of the glass in the retaining clip of the housing first.
5. Carefully press the outer end of the glass inwards until it securely locates in the front

i broke the glass in my 95 disco left side mirror, replacemnt frm androver for 45 dollars.
shop around, very easy to replaqce

Hi there - It's pretty easy to pop the mirror out of the housing - a previous clip from a thoughtful fellow motorist left mine hanging out once and it just clipped back in.

You may be able to get the glass replaced in your existing unit - I know that there is a glass/mirror place near Bondi junction that has a sign 'we replace car mirrors' outside it.

The big problem with mine is that it fell out onto the ground and got run over presumably a number of times - upshot of this is that not only is the mirror glass totally stuffed, the clip on the back has also turned into lots of little pieces - half of which I don't have.

And no dramas about the 'hijack' - I'm sure the mods won't mind!

Quick question - are these mirrors heated? I guess that's what the wires are for. Oh and mine is also a 1997 so the earlier disco/RR mirrors no good...

All fixed. I got a replacement mirror from Graeme Cooper's earlier ($45) and replaced it already thanks to Scott's instructions.

I never knew the mirrors were heated but then I've not been anywhere cold enough to have found that out before.
