How much for a dead Tdi?

I have been offered a late 90s Tdi on which the engine has 'blown' according to the owner, its an auto, but not sure exactly which model, the body is fine. How much is this sort of thing worth for scrap, I would be parting out the bits I don't want.

What is going on? 64 people look at this post and no-one can tell me anything, even though plenty of people on here at parting out Discos! The owners want $1500 for it, is that good? - the engine overheated after a head gasket repair in the car, so the car is undriveable as the engine is out at the moment.

Best place to ask would be a wrecker. Not totally up on things but if you have seats, dash and other items then $1500 may be around the mark but a wrecker would really have a better idea.

The problem with a dead Disco is that you have to take the owner's word for the condition of all of the rest of the driveline. As you know the cost of repairs is often more than the value of a part. So it's value is entirely dependent on distance travelled, wear signs and service documentation.

What are you prepared to give him for it, taking into account you are highly unlikely to get wrecking yard prices for the rest? What do you need off it? Offer him $800 and see how you go. A wreckers will offer him far less than $1500 because their biggest seller is a good motor.
