    front driveline shake

my 93 disco had developed a bad shake in the front end,it first started only between 70 to 80kph but now does it when i take off and accelerate, i can feel the vibration through the steering wheel and the accerator it almost feels like something is unbalanced,,,i have had new wheel bearings done about a year ago and tie end rods the same time, last week i bought a new steering dampner and thats hasnt changed it,,also had new castor bushes done a couple of months ago,,

i not to sure what to test first im thinking wheel bearings but there is no noise or loose wheel,,maybe tyres they have good tread but are about 5 years old and only balananced about a month ago

any ideas would be a great help before i have to start spending up on things chasing the problem
    thanks mick

jack the front end, support the axle on stands and do the wheel wobble check. if it has movement get someone to stomp on the brakes and do it again. movement that goes away with this check is wheel bearings movement that doesnt is usually swivel bearing preload or a collapsed bush/bearing in the swivel.

Turn the wheels to lock and then turn the wheels by hand, any noise at full turn indicates a binding CV, repeat at both extremes of lock on both sides.

If theres no movement there give all the bushes a good prying to find any damaged ones and while you're under check the rims for signs of a thrown wheel weight. Grab the front propshaft and turn it by hand, any creaking, cracking or groaning indicates failing/Dry UJ's.

if that shows nothing chassis jack the vehicle and let the front axle hang and repeat all of the above. If that still shows nothing remove the steering damper and drop the vehicle back on its wheels.

Give the steering a wobble check by having someone rock the steering back and forth while you inspect all of the steering links and bushes, pay attention to the panhard rod, if its kicking while the rock check is happening then it needs rebushing. Repeat this test with the engine running.

give the suspension a bounce test and count the oscillations that the shockys take to damp out the movement. Take it for a good drive on some rough roads (30minutes at 80ish KPH on a second class road) then feel the shocks for temp and repeat the bounce test. More oscillations or one shock cooler than the other or with oil on its casing indicates a failed shock.

    Best of luck.
