rattling sound after overheating?
Hello again all.
I have solved the bleeding air from the radiator and the temp is fine now.My problem now is that there is a rattling sound when I accelerate and put a bit more load on the engine. It's fine while cruising but as soon as I accelerate or start going up a hill and put a bit more load on the engine I can hear a rattling sound. It is the same sort of sound an engine makes if the tuning is out and you start hearing a rattly sound when you accelerate or it even sounds a bit like the engine oil is very low but it is full and very fresh oil.Can overheating an engine cause oil pump problems or damage the oil quality.Any ideas would be appreciated.I am hoping it's not main bearings.Cheers Shane

Check your timing .... Set it back to 3 degrees
If it disappears ... Then advance to 9 degrees
While your at it .... Suck on the vacuum advance and see if it works
Cheers

How hot did it get?
The worst case scenario is that the cylinder liners have slipped and are contacting the crankshaft
Is the noise there when the engine is cold? If not then it it looks like it could be liners,
Cheers Charlie

Possibly head gasket failure, but also likely the exhaust manifold bolts need checking for tightness. Sometimes they fall out they get so loose.
