98 V8 Missing on hot start

My 98 developed a stumbling/misfire today on hot starts. (It was/still is a very hot day) This would clear after about 30 seconds of about 2000rpm or a minute or two idling if it would keep running.

I'm thinking it may be down to fuel vaporisation in the fuel rails due to the heat - Anybody else experienced anything similar ?

The only other possibility I could think of is that the Ignition amp or coil is getting heat soaked and just the additional flow of air from the engine fan cools it down enough to make it run correctly

The other thing I noticed for the first time is that sat idling (to keep the AC working) while we waited to look at a house for rent the temperature climbed from it's usual 1/3 position on the gauge up towards about 9/10 on the gauge. Went for a 1km drive around the block and the temp came back down to it's normal 1/3 position. I also noted that the two electric fans in front of the AC condenser weren't running. I'm not sure this is related but you never know.

Never had the temp gauge move from the 1/3 position before even on the beach in soft sand at full throttle and about 15kmh in low range in 30 degree temps.

Both fans should be working whenever the air-conditioner is turned on.

I replaced one of mine with a new Davies Craig fan for about $100

If the temperature got that high, then the viscous fan should have engaged as well, which you can hear as definite roaring noise. Might be time to change the viscous hub!

The fact that a short drive brought the temperature down, means that the thermostat and radiator are working well,

    Cheers Charlie

Thanks Charlie, guess I'ld better do some elec trouble shooting to see whats up with the fans. I'm pretty certain that the viscous fan is working OK as there's definitely enough roaring noise, possibly too much. i agree nice that a short drive in lots of heat brought the temp down quickly.
