    Electronic ignition on a 3.9/4.6

Hi All, I was just wondering how simple/difficult is it to get rid of the distributor and put electronic ignition on the 4.6 in my D1, and if there would be any real improvement. I was also wondering if changing/upgrading the injectors would make any noticeable difference.

    Cheers

I thought the 4.6 was already electronic ignition - as are all the V8s from the late 80s.

If you mean electronic timing and coil packs there is a bloke on here that did the conversion to his D1 using a megasquirt(?) aftermarket computer. Injector swaps with newer Bosch injectors is common. Usually get them from the US very cheaply via ebay.

the most common configeration of the 4.6 swap is to use the water pump / timing cover off of the original 3.9 and dizzy onto the 4.6 so that the CUX14 can still drive it as the one with the 4.6 doesn't retro fit back. the 4.6 came out with coil packs and no dizzy
