    5TH GEAR VIBRATION 96 V8i

    G'day All,

Last Thursday I had a new clutch master and slave cylinder fitted at a local Land Rover specialist, and while there I had all the driveline fluids changed. Drove the Disco to work on Friday, was great to have a working clutch!
On the way home Monday while in 5th gear at about 110 km/h I felt something in the drivetrain 'let go'. There was/is no funny noises, gear changes are all OK, the only difference is a high frequency vibration felt in the driveline somewhere, making the gear lever vibrate as well

All the other gears are fine, 5th gear only at all speeds and only under a constant load or while accelerating. It stops while coasting. I've looked at all the obvious stuff and nothing looks out of place. Given that the vibe started without warning or other symptoms I'm at a loss for what it could be.
    Anyone have any clues?
    Cheers William.

Thanks glenn82, this had crossed my mind as well. I tend to cruise at fairly high speeds cause the Disco is so good at it! I'm going to call in to the mechanics who did the work last week and see if they noticed anything when they changed the gearbox oil.
    cheers Will.

Have a look at the condition of the rubber coupling between the rear prop-shaft and the rear diff.

The rubber coupling gets cracks in it with age that can often show up as vibrations in the driveline.

    G'day All,
Thanks to those who offered advice, but it looks like my vibration is caused by an engine miss that is getting progressively worse
The miss is only there under load, and the previous owner had the plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor button all replaced last service[dizzy cap and rotor button rover parts] The Disco goes in next Wednesday for a compression test and to have the coil replaced, and everything else checked.
Driving home from work today the miss was very evident, and the gear lever was shaking too! Motor has only done 236,000 kays.

    cheers William.
