    Hi, If the belt is running off to the front the shim goes at the bottom of the tensioner in between the tensioner and the block. To do this remove the belt and loosen the bolt in the middle of the tensioner, slip in the shim and hold weight on the tensioner until the bolt is nipped up.
    Good luck it's fiddly.

    Not so fiddly if you take off the tensioner, then stick the 5c piece on with some double sided tape first at the 9 o clock position.

    My TDI has stopped squeaking after years of putting up with it. the Gates brand serpentine belt (7PK1580) are supposed to be a softer compound and squeak less than the original one.
