Talking Now for a bit of fun.....

    Hi all.
At this very moment my duel fuel D1 is running the best it has ever gone, so I thought it was time for a bit of fun and to ask all the AULRO members for some advice.

While I have a D1 my wife has a p38 (which she loves) and it keeps me awake at night knowing she has a bigger V8 then me. HA HA HA
I recently brought a p38 at the wreaked car auction for a few spares for the wife’s car which leaves me with a spare 4.6 V8.
This is where the fun starts.

The way I see it I have three options:

Pull the 3.9 out and the 4.6 put the dizzy in the 4.6 and swap the piper torque max cam and all the bolt on bits so that it’s in the same setup as the 3.9 and drop it in the disco. I know the fuel map won’t suit the larger engine but it won’t matter as it only really needs to start on fuel as I will drive on LPG

Do a full swap where I change the ECU over as well so I can run the GEMs management and all of its sensors but then I won’t be able to use the piper cam I have in the 3.9. It will be more expensive and not sure it will be worth the extra money for the small different in power as most of the Gems management will not be in use as 99% of the time I will be running LPG.

Third and final option is sell the 4.6 and the ECU to pay for the p38 wreak I brought and just buy hi-comp pistons and up the compression of the 3.9.
I'm happy with the performance of the motor I just want a little more power for towing.
And let’s face it. Everyone loves a bigger V8!!!!
    Look forward to everyone’s thoughts

KISS principle and what you gain is bottom end torque. Worth its weight and no extra cost.

    Hi bee utey.
That’s the way I'm thinking is the best way to go.
My father thinks I’m crazy and I should go the hi-comp pistons as he thinks the 4.6 will just use more fuel and only give a small gain in power.
He has been playing with cars for the best part of 40 years so when I get in to an argument with him about performance I normally end up being wrong which is why I want more opinions from everyone.

    Thanks for the input.

    do it the real way...
    rip out the v8
    install a 4bd1
    add a turbo
set the waste gate at 40-45psi
    Wind up the rack.

quash that girly low compression bug once and for all..

in your situation I'd be looking at dumping in the 4.6 with the better cam then tweak it all up to run on LPG only by adding direct LPG injection.
