sounds good
Hello from Alaska. Thought I'd share what I did to lift my Disco 2". I took the rear stock coils from my Disco and put them on front. I then got a pair of STOCK Toyota FJ80 Front coils and put them in the rear. No new shocks, no need for brake extensions and I must say I am impressed with the ride and flex from this. NO vibes, still drives down road at 75 mph easily(if I choose). On the rear you will have to flip the spring plates upside down to fit the NARROW end of the FJ80 coil into it. Thats it. I run 245 75 16 MTR's and they stuff great. I did "Camel cut" the rear arches a little. NO its not a "Rover specific" lift but it works if your a cheap bastard like me with 4 kids. I also removed sway bars front and rear, I barely noticed any difference although some of you will say its "un-safe". I love this site, just found it yesterday and have been reading since then!.
sounds good
What does removing the sway bars do? (i.e. why did you remove them?)
Yep. There's another thread going
on at the moment about disconnects.
I am not a moderator, I am a human being!!!
Welcome to the Forum AlaskaRover. I think you're probably the first Alaskan to join the Forum.
Alaska's a big state though, so what part of it are you from?
Roger
Yes removing the sway bars improves articulation off-road but does increase the vehicles sway when your on the road, but like I said it does not bother me nor has it in the last 10 years I have been doing it. You can remove them and just leave them off OR you can buy quick disconnects.
I'm from Anchorage Alaska, its pretty cool up here but I'd love to wheel Australia!!.
I met a couple once who enjoyed driving their Range Rover into the Arctic regions .............. in the middle of winter ............... sounded rather extreme to me but they said it was good as the rivers were frozen and easy to cross.
What are your favourite 4WDing areas in Alaska and what special precautions do you have to take with your Disco during the extreme sub-zero temperatures in winter?
Roger
