Okay, I do not suppose you know the price for the BF Goodrich AT?
I just run regular road tyres on my old RR but in a slightly taller size than standard. When aired down, they're fine on 95% of surfaces -check out the latest NSW trip report: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/nsw-act-re...pic-heavy.html
If you want ATs, then there are many choices around. BF Goodrich ATs have a good reputation.

You're right.
I don't know the price.
Just do the usual ring around - I know tyre prices vary greatly in Sydney so they might be the same around you.
Or even drop into a couple of stores. There might be a better tyre they recommend for the local conditions.

I have noticed a few more problems.
The taco seems to have an intermittent fault, occasionally when i start the car it remains inactive, starting to work eventually it also bounces up and down when i sit on a constant rpm.
The other problem is the Battery warning light turns on at low revs. I am not sure what this means but i can feel the power steering stop working.
I hope that someone here is able to help me troubleshoot the above problems
Thanks
Ash
The tacho gets it's signal from the alternator.
The battery light is also from the alternator.
You have a loose drive belt - hence a slipping alternator & PAS pulleys.
Just a guess![]()

if its your first turn round in the vehicle there's a lot of choices when it comes to tyres.. I like and recommend the BFG AT and the AT2 I pay about 260 a corner for the BFG AT. Tyre pressures are everything with a four wheel drive. as some very rough and ready numbers
(pressures in PSI and front/rear dist)
highway is about 32/42
gravel about 28/32-35 (depends on the load in the back and your suspension quirks)down to about 24/30 according to the type of track, tight pack high speed stuff needing the higher pressure and the sandy loose stuff wanting the lower
Rock crawling will see you at around 20-24 all the way around
sand should see you down in the 16-20 range with 10-16 as the setting for the really soft stuff.
Emergency low pressures can be as low as 2psi BUT youve got some very severe restrictions on your speed and steering inputs at those pressures and I STRONGLY recommend not going below 8 psi unless you know what you're doing when it comes to putting rubber back onto rims.
of course with lower pressures come speed restrictions.. as a very rough rule of thumb if you count your max speed as 110 KPH then for every psi you drop below 32 you should wipe 5kph off of your top speed.
of course the worst thing you're going to find is this...
in very short order you're going to bracket your and the vehicles capabilities... you'll improve one then you'll want to improve the other to compliment it... Of course this then leads to a new range of capabilities that will leave you wanting to improve something else... its a vicious circle that never ends... ITs great fun...
as previously mentioned, the tacho, batterly light and PS problem are most likely related to the tensioner being at its limit of travel or siezed.
oh yeah, welcome to AULRO![]()

Another quick question. What oil should I use I bought some penrite 15w50. I hope of is Tue right stuff also I noticed some rusty reddish coloured oil on the drive wag. What could that be?
Thanks
Ash
There's people on here who know a lot about oil so I'll leave that for them. I use whatever our workshop uses, currently Mobil Synth S I think.
Red oil is either power steering or auto. Check the hoses & steering box/pump if it appears to be from the engine end of the car.
Scott
the tdi will take any oil from a 0-30 to a 20-50 depending on engine and the ambient conditions.
a good 10-40 or 15-40wt oil is probably going to be your best bet for the engine oil.
red oil coming from up the front passangers side of the engine is most likely going to be the power steering fluid, the most common leak is the supply hose from the resivior to the pump. This is a low pressure line and is easy to change yourself. If its coming from the right hand front and down low then its most likely a power steering box seal, there is a wynns product that might get you a bit more life out of it but ultimately you will be up for a box overhaul.
The last option is if its an auto or someone has fitted an aftermarket cooler to the gearbox that you have a leak from the gearbox/auto cooling lines.

Disaster struck last night as I was leaving a friends house the clutch failed. It is now stuck at his house. I am going to get a mechanic to look at it sometime next week. Would a thrust bearing failing cause the clutch to be inoperable?
Is it alright to tow the disco, I was going to just leave it in neutral and tow it to the mechanic.
Thanks
